Family Weekend

We hope that you will join us for Family Weekend—an exciting opportunity to experience your student’s campus life, meet their friends, connect with other families and enjoy the VCU and Richmond communities. You are invited to participate in this annual fall event year after year as long as your student is enrolled in classes at VCU.

Family Weekend will take place October 4-6, 2019.

To prepare in advance for the weekend, here are a few things you should know:

  • Book your hotel early if you are coming from out of town. You can find local hotel information at
  • Family Weekend events begin at approximately 10 a.m. on Friday, October 4 and end at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 6.
  • There are a few major events throughout the weekend designed to appeal to everyone as well as smaller events designed for unique audiences. Some of the annual traditions include the Division of Student Affairs BBQ, the men's and women's soccer games and the Family Weekend 5K and .5K Fun Runs. Some of the smaller events include walking ghost tours, paint and sip events, art exhibits, adventure activities like whitewater rafting and bike tours, bus tours of the city, and more! There are over 75 events taking place in addition to all of the opportunities afforded by being in the city. There is something for everyone!

Online registration is closed!
Regular online registration closed at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, September 29. You can still do walk-up registration during check-in at Family Weekend, but be prepared that many ticketed events may be sold out and apparel will not be available.

Please talk to your student before registering as fees for Family Weekend are non-refundable and tickets for events are non-changeable. Keep in mind that your student may want to show you around campus or take you to some of their favorite spots in Richmond instead of participating in all of the official Family Weekend activities. You are welcome to attend Family Weekend activities without your student if they are unable to participate.
